The Moon in 3D: seas, craters and landing sites
The whole Moon, far side included, from the photographs of NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Turn it and every sea, crater and mountain range is named — the Sea of Tranquillity, Tycho, Copernicus, the craters of the far side named after scientists.
The relief is real: the mountains rise and the craters sink as the light slides over them, and the terminator — the line between day and night — is where it is on the Moon today.
The landing sites are marked too: the Apollo missions, the Soviet Luna and Lunokhod, the Chinese Chang'e. Click one to see where exactly the people and the machines came down.
