Hurricanes, typhoons and tropical storms live
When a hurricane forms over the ocean, it shows up here: its current position and strength, the path it has already travelled and the forecast track ahead. Atlantic hurricanes, Pacific typhoons and cyclones of the Indian Ocean are all on the same globe.
Turn on the satellite imagery of the day and you can see the storm itself — the spiral of cloud and the eye in the middle — on the real picture from space.
The storm data comes from the forecast centres, the U.S. National Hurricane Center among them, and is updated as their advisories come out, several times a day.
